Well, I just received my 2 iPhones, one for me, the other for my wife. And right out of the box my phone starts acting up. So after talking with Apple Tech support, I'm off to the Apple store and the Genius guy says, "yeah, that's no fun" and gets me a new one!!
I figured as long as I'm here, check my wife's phone, and all was well.
Now if that ain't an argument for buying a Refurb and paying half price, I don't know what is.

Yeah, ain't it a trip? I took mine to Apple store cause the battery was not keeping a charge longer than a few hours. Thinking they'd put in a new battery, but nooooooooo, they bring out a new iPhone and fix it all up with all my stuff !! Right on.

One thing I'm curious about is, with the refurb I got a 1 year warranty from Apple, but now that it was replaced with a new one, does that mean the warranty is 30 days?
I'm going to check with AT&T then with Apple.

I'm sure you still get the full original warranty. In my experience, the original unit and the replacement have their own warranty periods, but you get the greater of two: when I got a new screen on my Lombard right at the end of my AppleCare, the new screen had its OWN warranty--I want to say 90 says (certainly not another year).


Enjoy the new machines. Some other cool free apps:

SnapTell (point the camera at any book or CD or DVD and it will identify it--kind of like Shazam but visual)

Pandora (forget satellite--THIS is the ultimate radio; free, no audio ads, no DJs, and YOU control what plays)


And some great paid apps:

Jaadu VNC (I can see and control my Mac--fully--from anywhere)

Air Sharing (2-way file sharing/storage--AND viewing of many file types)


And don't get me started on games....

Well, after going back and forth with Apple then AT&T, yes I do get the 1 year warranty, so that's good news, and I have a case ID to reference just in case down the road.

Those Apps sound cool, any recommendations for a good GPS App, just trying to save on buying a Garmin.

Yes, I recommend the built-in Maps app It animates as you drive, gives directions from your current location, and shows a very visible purple route line. I use it constantly mounted on my dash.

Maps doesn't do everything a "real" GPS does:

* No heading (always north-up)
* No voice control or voice prompts
* No pre-stored data in the event that the Internet is not accessible
* Smaller screen than most car solutions

But it does some things a typical "real" GPS does not:

* Satellite photography
* Street-level 360° view
* Automatically-updated recent road data
* Traffic warnings
* Walking and public transit directions
* The ultimate yellow-pages search, Internet-driven, to find anything
* Insanely easy to use
* Uses no local storage for map data (it call comes off the 'net)
* You always take your phone with you, so no risk of the GPS being stolen

In the end, if/when a good "real" GPS app comes along, sure, I'll buy it. But in the meantime, Maps does 95% of what I ever need from an GPS. (The other 5% being voice guidance that I wish I had in unknown territory.) The main problem with Maps is when you drive into an area with no cell coverage--which for me is very rare. I'm willing to give up some storage space for pre-stored data that's ALWAYS available. (If I could also overlay satellite images off the 'net, I'd be in heaven. Best of both worlds.)

There is a $3 app called Motion-X GPS that gets good reviews. I just downloaded the free Lite version but I haven't driven with it yet. It does not have pre-stored map data. I think I'll wait for one that does.

I'd hold off on the Garmin and see what comes along for iPhone in future.
