Why should they care? They're not hurting ! How about cutting their bonuses ?
I mention before that their pay should be based on what they voted on - not this getting paid for showing up to whine and bitch - vote and it passes ya get some cash , and if it works ya get a bonus - vote no and it passes then it does not work then you get the cash from the guy who voted yes for a failed bill .

They should care. You've got to believe that their base is hurting, too. Will their constituencies continue to put up with this obstructionist behavior? Or will they, too become fed up and throw these fools out of office in 2010?

Thats why I feel the "Census" issue was the biggest , after all we know the Repubs did not like Obama planed Stimulus is a no brainer but to take the Census under the WH with Raul in charge of that independent department under congress <-- just scared the living shiit out of the Repubs
The sky isn't falling, mojo, but I dropped a plate* when I heard about the Census shlt. That's why he bailed, not because of some bizarro GOP conspiracy. I'd like to think a Dem in the same situation would likewise try to stand his ground on this messing the Census business, but given the current atmosphere, I doubt seriously if said Dem would.
Otherwise and overall ~ I'm not overly impressed with the new Admin. Time will tell.
*I catch a lot of news on my little TV in LeKitchen, thus the plate dropping.

I've said this before, but I have to repeat myself because the statement that mojo made strikes me as really really really dangerous in a country where you can't distinguish between head of state and head of government: to say that you want to see the president fail--and you can parse it as you want, with Limburger's "I meant the president's policies" as model--is the same as saying that you want to see the country fail. Put it in the most obvious terms: the president has a foreign policy, which dictates how the US fights the two wars in which we are engaged; saying that you want the president to fail is saying that you want the US to lose the two wars. And again as I've said before, wishing for the president to fail is very far from predicting failure, or expecting failure. I expected Bush to fail. I kept hoping I was wrong. Unfortunately my expectations weren't disappointed, something that became clear pretty early on. The result? The godawful mess the nation is in. So I repeat, the hope that the president fails is the same as a hope that the country fails.
Ideology is so obviously a dangerous way to look at the world that I find it hard to understand how people can allow ideology to frame the whole world for them. And I'm seriously afraid that the polarization of politics in this country has made it possible for ideology to trump any effort at objectivity.

You betcha we'll throw them out. We are wandering in the deep weeds but we learned some valuable lessons during this campaign.
I would like to wager dinner to any takers. This nonstimulus package is supposed to be a two year plan. And to paraphrase dear leader, we have to become fiscally conservative after this huge generational theft act expires. So here is the wager. In 2010, the federal budget is cut by 790 billion dollars.
Hint. Only twice in our nations history have expenditures year to year ever been reduced. Once by about 5 billion and another time by about 700 million.

You can't have it both ways. Failure in Iraq was trumpeted by every Democrat politician within feet of a microphone. Unless I missed something that was an important part of foreign policy the last seven years like it or not.
Maybe Rush is not capable of saying it. But I want this administration and its supporters to fail miserably. We need to reboot this nation. Perhaps the only way that can come about is to face ruin and destitution that generations ago experienced. We have lost our way. We are a more of a nation of non producers and takers than one of ambition and hard work. Big Government now trumps family and close community. Scrap it all and start over.
Thomas Jefferson..."The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

No one that I ever heard, read, or saw, ever said "I hope Mr. Bush fails in Iraq." It's you who wants to have it both ways, hoping for the US to fail on the grounds that you're a patriot in the mode of the Minutemen.
