I don't want to be a party pooper. I like this place alot, but it has a looooooonnnnngggg way to go before it even comes close to being like MC. First off, we need about another 50 to 100 REGULAR posters. Right now, the user list shows only a few people with over 100 posts, and the top guy only has 500 posts or so... hell, I had over 500 posts in 10 days at MacCentral.

Quantity is the key to getting the forums going. Lots of different posts, means we have lots of choice. Look at the people who came over here from MC... we are the same people who always seemed to chat with each other over there. But look how many people we had to "skip over" to get to the few people we enjoyed.

[color:red]semicolon dash parenthesis

True, but the number of posts over there in MC has dropped a bit since so many of us have spent time posting over here.

Hey, interesting thing, most of the posts in the lounge are about posting in the lounge. (About 90%). Most of the posts in GD are...well not much happening there. I used to have my prefs set for 90 posts and most days, the new ones'd pretty much fill the browser page. Now there's basically no movement. Says something about messing about with winning formulae, I'd say.

Anyhow, give MM time. We're able to influence its fortunes should we wish, and I can see a whole lot of good fun ahead if we want that. I hope the locals enjoy the spirit of us refugees.

Gizmo makes some good points, and with every Mac site out there offering forums, luring new members (especially those who are regulars at other forums) is often challenging.

Still, the boost you MacCentral refugees have given us over the last two days has been tremendous, and its renewed our interest in really pursuing the Cafe.

Having built up the MacNN forums from a few hundred members to the 20,000 it has now (prior to my departure a year ago), I know it can be done, and it's very exciting when it happens.

Snowball away!
