Good episode. I turned to my gal and predicted the nature of the ending at the beginning of the show. It was not a terribly surprising ending but it certainly was an uplifting one and it felt like an honest, credible way to have Grissom go out of the series.
He will be missed indeed. I haven't watched the show regularly in some years now (guess I kind of OD'd on it, truth be told) but the casting and back stories in the original series was what made it the best of the bunch. What a great character Grissom was. Enigmatic, subtle, maddening, brilliant, lonely. Pretty freakin' cool.
I'm wondering how long the show will go on without him. That's three main characters gone now. Then again, I kind of feel like the show has run its course, and we're just getting a lot of repeats now. I can't believe the popularity of the show, quite amazing considering how many shows out there like it.
I always got a kick out of watching it since I lived in Vegas for so many years. The show was obviously not shot in the state of Nevada, let alone Las Vegas (other than a few cut scenes in each episode). There are no mountains or trees like you see on the show. There are no wood-sided homes. And despite what's portrayed on the show, there are actually light bulbs in Las Vegas... and people actually use them!
