So, my mother-in-law (she's cool) has a Macbook 1.83 Core Duo. with a flashing folder on startup. I toss in the OSX 10.5 installer disc and low and behold.......no drive. Order a new drive and install. Low and behold, no drive. Not even in DISC UTILITY! Swap out another drive and same thing. Reseat ram zap p ram and nothing. Is this trashed or what? Sees the optical drive just fine, and everything else in the apple utility seems right. Just no ATA! Any suggestions?
Yes, this sounds like a problem with the SATA bus. Possibly it could also be some traces on the motherboard but effectively you need a new motherboard.
