My research—and it's been pretty extensive—keeps pointing back to Seagate as being just about the most reliable hard drives consumers can get. What clinched it for me was discovering that Glyph Technologies uses them in all of their professional series of enclosures for audio and media production. As strongly as folks in those fields rely on robust hardware, that's a pretty strong endorsement.

At this point in time I'll just stick with the Seagate 120 because I have an external 500 GB for additional storage. It is nice to know I have that other option though. As far as keeping the G4 running is concerned I get hand me downs from my better half when she's done with them. Right now there isn't a budget to replace her G5 so my G4 HAS to keep going. I really don't want to go back to the G3 or 8600!
I have been using a software solution in my Digital Audio G4. It's from Intech Software Corp. and is called the "ATA Hi Cap support driver". It is designed for pre-mirrored door G4's (not sure where the Quicksilver fits in the sequence).and G3's. I've had no problems with my machine recognizing and using the full 256 Mb capacity of my HD. When I bought it in 2005 it was $25. Naturally, it was Reboot who recommended it (I think). :-)
