Powermax is great because of the trade-in deal. No hassles of selling your computer. They offered me $880 for my 5 year old PM and monitor, but I have to wait until after the holidays.
Granted, Powermax can't do the educational deal, but heck, if I can get that price for my computer, that cuts down the cost of a new iMac a lot!
I don't know of anyone else that takes them as trade-ins. Perhaps someone else knows?
A quick check on ebay shows that there are a lot of powermacs G5 models up there and not selling. the ones that do have a lot of bids have software loaded on it (Adobe, etc), a couple (1 or 2) are around the price I was quoted, several more are WAY under (less than $100) and numerous ones are at 0 bids.
Even if I sold it at the same price that was quoted me, then I would have to ship it.

They are exact same iMacs. Is that a great deal! Apple ships free, but PowerMax didn't ship free to me [I bought used Macs.]
I believe you said they gave you trade in for your old Mac. Is that why you called it a good deal?
Or is it like working with car salesmen? You dickered and got some other stuff too that made the deal sweeter?
PowerMax is in Oregon and I've used them to buy used Macs because they are honest and back up their sales, etc.
I usually have to take a man with me to buy cars because I don't know how to work the deals.
The trade-in was a major factor in getting a great deal for me. I was given a price for my old G5 $980,(that included my old monitor), and the no-hassle transaction is a plus compared to dealing with an unknown party. Second, no tax, so from the tax savings, retail price savings, savings from add-ons like more Ram and a larger HD, and they are an authorized Apple retailer, it was a no-brainer for me.
