What I WAS was an avid environmentalist, from NEW JERSEY ... the State with the dubious distinction of being THE Most Polluted State in the Nation.
Also, because of my father's work, I was also raised in the middle of an industrial park (literally surrounded by factories & factory warehouses. If my "social skills" are somewhat lacking, it's due to the isolation in which me & my siblings grew up.
When some guy I'd never heard of from Texas unexpectedly became the PotUS, I was somewhat disappointed that Al Gore (a fellow greeney) never got his chance to turn around the environmental mess we'd gotten ourself into, I more or less blamed "Slick-Willy"'s slick willy for making his former VP (and his own wife) unelectable,
I just shrugged it off. Besides "THEY" were saying "HE was inexperienced, but no worries, but HE HAD HIS FATHER'S Old Staff As ADVISERS."...so I was satisfied with that... ...figuring "Well, how much harm can he do in only 4 years?"
BUT Then WTF?!?!? he APPOINTED THE GOVERNOR OF New Jersey AS HEAD OF THE EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) (Why would he select Our Governor, IN THE MIDDLE OF HER TERM of Office, Who had THE WORST Record (EVEN BY NJ Standards) and from the State with the WORST Environmental Record in the entire nation??????
*** For anyone who don't remember her by name *** Christy Todd Whitman was the Head of the EPA who Declared that "GROUND-ZERO" and the surrounding neighborhood was SAFE for the MILLIONS of People that work & live in that area... now suffering From INCURABLE Pulmonary Diseases like Mesothelioma & COPD.
Carp is right. We should have a doctor or a nurse at HHS, or maybe even a home health aide---they're really on the front lines, and would have a far better understanding and more effective policy than some neophyte like Daschel. What's he good for, anyway? And I know a great truck stop where we could start recruiting for a really competent Secretary of Transportation!
And since we're looking for "unity," why not Joe the Plumber as Obama's press secretary? He now has media experience, and we all know the great wisdom that has accrued to him by virtue of his being part of the working class. I can identify with him! He speaks my language! Joe the Plumber understands! I sure wish that I could be on that transition team. I'd show them an administration that would shake up the country!
