Just a personal thing with me, YoYo. Real was so bad for so long, and pulled so many crappy tricks with their software that I just prefer to diss them as a matter of course.
I wake up, get some coffee, take my vitamin, light a cig and yell "F*** REALNETWORKS!!!" out my front door.
Same with the way Verizon behaves, both functionally and as a corporation. I would only ever use them if they were the only game in town, and even then, begrudgingly.

GOT IT! Discovered that you can't open it (nice guitar clip, BTW) by double-clicking on the file... but must first open it from QT after the conversion.

What you need to do is "Get Info" on the 'RenamedVideo.flv' file. Then in the "Open With" pane choose your QT player, and then click the "Change All..." button.
After doing that, a double-click on any similar files will open them in QT automatically.

I just got home, so I'll do that "Open with" thing now. Thanks again for all your help on this. Could you give me your opinion on the YouTube "no longer available" status? Must I now assume that there is no way they could ever be rescued from oblivion? And, if that's the case, I might as well just remove their place-holders in my blog.

Looking through YouTube Discussions, I came across several posts like this one... posted in the last few days:
YouTube is having some enormous issue with their video handling that is causing the "no longer available" to pop up everywhere. It's happening randomly to most everyone, and there are people in these forums who are about ready to riot over it. So far, they haven't even acknowledged that there IS a problem, so we don't know if they're trying to fix it or not. We can only hold on and hope they'll eventually notice.
So, maybe they're NOT lost forever. I'll be eager to have this solved.

Hey, you're welcome, David. I know I was a happy camper when I discovered that little trick with Safari. I've used it to grab media from a bunch of different sources, so it's always worth a try.
As for the "No Longer Available" status on some videos: The ones I saw that notice on always seemed to be from content producers who were really patrolling the web and sending take-down notices…movie studios, TV networks, etc.. I didn't know anything about a more anomalous, widespread problem.
