i was using Parallels 3 on my Macbook but i thought it was too slow. i have 1 copy of Windows XP. i decided to use it with Boot Camp on my Mac Pro instead. i don't know if i'll upgrade to Parallels 4 when i get my new Macbook. i can't use my copy of XP in two places so i'd be upgrading to have Ubuntu on the Macbook. actually, that might be worth it. Ubuntu was having major issues with Parallels 3 so i'll be interested in learning whether it's now working well with Parallels 4.

I found that things got way faster when I gave Parallels (and VMware Fusion) enough disk space. Without that, Windows churns on itself and is brutally slow.
Those buggers - they're charging £40 for the upgrade in the UK, which is like US$62. I don't mind having to pay a bit more for something that has to be shipped over from the other side of the world, but this is a download, for goodness' sake.

*edit* okay, I surged too early there - without the Extended Download option, we'd only be paying $4 more, if we weren't also paying 19% VAT on top of the price... so it's only $52

...and I plunged - the winxp update procedure is really awful - several rounds of 'sorry, this isn't working, please try again' which actually means 'that stage worked but now you have to start the next one manually'. But in the end, I've got it all up and running, it is quicker, and best of all, my 8Gb virtual drive is now only 5Gb.
