Well, my bungalow finally sells on hallowe'en! I may be one of the very few people in the UK at the moment who's actually sold a house. Off topic, you say? Not at all - my girlfriend just broke up with me when we were about to move to the highlands of Scotland together, and I'm in need of solace so I plan to treat myself to an iPhone, dammit. Too many hours of trying to get my Nokia to sync properly with my MBP, enough is enough. Plus, they're pretty!

The problem is that I'm already on an O2 contract, so my only way to instant gratification is to buy a Pay As You Go iPhone and convert my old contract to an iPhone contract. It's an extravagance I'm willing to permit myself (I don't have too many of those). The angst sets in though - what if they bring out new models soon?

Anyone heard any rumours about the next round of iPhone generations? Should I wait or jump?

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

Like Michael says there will be software updates just like we have for OSX. I don't expect to see a new iPhone before next summer.

Go buy one and enjoy!

I believe I may... oh, it's my birthday in 13 days, that's it settled then! I'm going for the 8Gb though - the extra 8Gb would be £50 more, only worth it if going to be away from my mac for 8Gb's worth of music time. My current phone has 2Gb (less all the other stuff on it) and I've still got 20 hours of music on there. I'll save that £50 for apps and accessories .

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

The only thing I really want is a decent spreadsheet app - don't know if there is one out there yet. Oh, and support for at least reading .odf docs.

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

The two main things I wanted to achieve in 2008 were to get a girlfriend and to get an iPhone.

Only one of those has panned out for me, but I'm definitely happy about which one it was

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net
First of all don't jack around and get the 16GB unit. You'll fill the thing up sooner than you think.

No luck with spread-sheet apps yet, and to read something other than what you generate inside the phone (not much), you need an app like DataCase, which allows the uploading (via ftp) of various file-formats in read-only folders. Not a real Finder, but okay for pdfs, xls and the like.
I tried a few of those apps and found DataCase to be the most flexible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Woe the nation, which has no heros. ......
