I am an Obama supporter, but I have to disagree with your take on that poll. According to the article, there were gains among whites, but the poll was not just "a select demographic of whites earning less than $50K." They interviewed 1,101 adults and the results of the poll were:

Obama +1 with likely voters
Obama +5 with registered voters
Obama +10 with all respondents

Agree or not, that's what the article states. I find the poll to be suspect since it is so different than most others, but you can't just discount it without more information. I really hope that it is not an accurate reflection of how the public will vote on election day.

apparently, the AP used an erroneous methodology for this poll getting so much attention:
In reply to:

AmericaBlog looked over the methodology, however, and a found that the poll skewed far too heavily in favor of Evangelical Christians. Click here for the complete breakdown:

The problem? In 2004, evangelicals/born-again Christians made up 23% of voters. But that same group makes up 44% of likely voters in AP's poll released today. That's almost double the number - it's totally implausible.

http://www.americablog.com/2008/10/new-flawed-ap-poll-claims-mccain-and.html

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions

For a poll like this to be so obviously flawed one has to ask, what is the point? Whoever makes it doesn't really benefit, who does?

One campaign benefits, the Obama/Biden campaign. Everyone is hearing blowout by the media. It might make the new voter think they don't have to get out of bed on November 4. But a poll like this should energize the Obama vote. It will get even more of those fresh ACORN minted voters to the real poll. The one on November 4.
