Well for example I'm using 2.1, and my answers reported some problems/frequencies that don't actually happen anymore with 2.1. (I guess they could have added the phrase "with your current software version" to each question.)

Copy-and-paste and GPS heading would be my main desires.

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net

I think the GPS heading is there but blocked by Apple Legal , something about liability ? I don't know what the fear is but Jobs did briefly mention it

When the 3G iPhone came out I read it's something about having to be licensed to write GPS software, or something like that. Someone like Garmin or TomTom needs to write the stuff.

That's the way I understood it anyway.

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game

Hummm could be ?
But I thought the Military owned the rights then became public after the 20 year rule , so Garmin and TomTom grab a patent on it ?

I'm not sure of the details. Hopefully someone here that has the time to Google more info will try to correct me.

What I read was just a line or two on it inside an article on the phone.

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game

Okay

GPS shebang from wiki

[color:blue]GPS was developed by the United States Department of Defense. Its official name is NAVSTAR-GPS. Although NAVSTAR-GPS is not an acronym,[1] a few backronyms have been created for it.[2] The GPS satellite constellation is managed by the United States Air Force 50th Space Wing.

This could be why Apple does not have heading yet

[color:blue]the US Government controls the export of civilian receivers. A US-based manufacturer cannot generally export a GPS receiver unless the receiver contains limits

[color:blue]Capabilities for access by third party software developers to these features were slower in coming, with Nextel opening those APIs up upon launch to any developer, Sprint following in 2006, and Verizon soon thereafter. - Humm no mention of At&T ?

IIRC there are two barriers to turn-by-turn GPS software. And Apple has said it expects to see such software, so both are expected to have solutions.

1. Something (not sure what) is forbidden by the SDK's terms--but everything there has an "unless you have permission" option I'm sure. And the SDK terms could always change to not even NEED permission once the legal liabilities are worked out, or once #2 is solved.

2. The iPhone OS location services currently reports coordinates but not heading. I take that to be a software issue that Apple just didn't get around to, like many others, while putting all their efforts into the rest of the SDK and the App Store. I believe Apple has said that a GPS software update will add heading in future.

(I'm pretty sure the relevant comments from Apple were not made at Stevenotes, but came from other execs afterwards. I don't have links to support my memory--sorry.)

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net
I would think the problem is the mapping software more than the GPS receiving software, because there are only a few manufacturers, who have complete sets of digitized street maps in multiple languages.
No map, no directions.
That's where someone like TomTom comes in.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Woe the nation, which has no heros. ......
