An excellent presentation by Lawrence Lessig
(if the image is too big on your monitor, original is here)

Edited by garyW on 09/23/08 09:25 PM (server time).

Who cares ? Obama experience would fit in 14 minutes - Besides Obama never has been a Governor who would run a whole State - Senators are nothing but the step above glorified locale "conceal people" and was just relocated to Washington instead of a local city consul. <-- thats about it.

In reply to:

Who cares ?

You didn't even watch it before you criticize, did you?

In reply to:

Senators are nothing but the step above glorified locale "conceal people" and was just relocated to Washington instead of a local city consul.

Proves you didn't even watch it. The video is a fascinating look at the experience of American Vice Presidents starting with John Adams. The vast majority were from congress. What's up with your compulsive impulse to criticize this before you even know what you're criticizing? You did it the other day too with the discussion of the Accountability & Transparency Law.

On second thought Carp, this quote of yours pretty much indicates you don't approve that Congress even exists and shows contempt for it even as a Legislative body. That's pretty heavy criticism you dish out.

The question:

Can we afford this wild card?

I'm afraid not many will watch that movie.

But -- YOU -- really should.

Palen is historically the least qualified of almost ALL Vice Presidents of the United States of America! [only 2 exceptions, and not really them either in my view]

Take a time out and watch the movie everyone . . .

The only troubling thing about the movie for me was -- I kept comparing Obama's qualifications with those historical VP's . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [sad]

Thank you Kate. I changed the Subject Title of my original post so it may be more accessible to closed minds.

Obama is not a wild card. He has been vetted by the American people and the media for the last 18 months. He was nominated by over 18 million votes. He has had over 20 debates as a presidential candidate. His policy positions have been detailed ... his voting record and legislative accomplishments as a United States Senator have been very public.

Sarah Palin has served as Governor of Alaska for a total of 85 days. She recieved one vote to become the Vice Presidential nominee.

I was responding to the verbiage you wrote - not the video

Hey ; I respect you allot but will not subscribe to a one sided view , even if I am for Obama . If the media is going to tip over trash cans then lets dump trash on all sides. - sorta being fair fodder

The next event once the media has tired with "pigs in lipstick" they will turn to "Biden" who after all has more skeletons in the closet , then even Palin , Biden however has been in Washington for decades , while when Obama was just in grade school during those years <-- you can bet next month Biden will be the next subject of focus, thus even more garbage.

Again, you didn't even watch the video, did you? It's not about skeletons in closets and one sided smears. Only your criticism of it injects that into the discussion.

The author and presenter, Mr. Lessig, is quite good as far as an academic political commentators go. Lessig is considered a liberal, but he clerked for two influential conservative judges: Richard Posner and Justice Antonin Scalia.

You never even acknowledged how wrong you were in your previous criticism even after I spelled it out to you.

But I do understand that's what politics does and makes us dish out the kneejerk responses .... kinda like starting an unnecessary war or offering $700B to fix a greed problem.

In reply to:

Yep - yes I did not watch the video - whats the point to do so ?? just to get another one sided view ?

Then why criticize the presentation and the entire Legislative body of the United States and it's history of vice presidents since 1789? Somehow that's not relevant to the office Gov Palin is running for? Specially if you believe her claim that her level of experience is "normal".

By the way, the video begins with the author explaining that he wrote an editorial about Palin's convention speech where he rated it "Great".

Seeing what caliber of people once "only" made VP, one realizes how unqualified Obama really is! ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Woe the nation, which has no heros. ...... Blessed the one, which needs none!" (Bertold Brecht)
