Hey Bird, I'm sorry that Google Maps took out your browser. I just wanted to show how much EPA activity effects what is just a regular vacation spot for a lot of people around Chicago.

The thing about the asbestos hazard out there is that no one knows exactly where it is coming from. There were rumors that the Johns-Manville plant was dumping excess inventory off shore just as laws were being passed regarding asbestos manufacturing. Another theory is that a number of houses on the lakefront were demolished and the rubble was pushed into the lake, containing a ton of asbestos.

What is gives me pause is that it is very likely that it didn't take much to contaminate a whole shoreline. Yes, it could be illegal dumping from Johns-Manville; it could have been just some reckless demolition. In either case, it was a failure in our environmental stewardship of one of the most precious resources in the midwest.

We can't afford to keep promoting industry flunky ideologues to positions in the EPA like the Republicans like to do.

-- Cee Bee Double-U
