The wife's Mini has been slowing to a crawl the last couple of days. I briefly tried to determine the cause last night after I got home from work. DU froze while searching for devices several times and System Profiler froze while trying to get info for Serial-ATA devices. I'll try to get the time to run DW this afternoon, but for the moment, her Mail.app and FF are working acceptably well for her. Based on prior experience, I'd bet the drive is heading south. We may be giving TM a run for its money soon.

Good drive and price.

Haven't you replaced the internal once in that? Is it in an air conditioned environment?

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game
If it's running F@H the drive is probably never sleeping. Maybe boot off of a firewire external and use the internal as a backup? I have a couple of people set up that way since the internal is only 5400 RPM. It improves the speed of the mini and keeps heat out of the unit.

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game

How much ram does it have installed? I was having that exact problem with my Mini until I added another gig of ram. No freezes or problems of any kind since. Just my dos centavos...

Never raise your hand to your children; it leaves your midsection unprotected.
~ Robert Orben (1927- )

Base 512 MB. I should consider upgrading to, at least 1 GB for her, but that will have to wait until I get more hours at work or a full-time job.

Finally ran DW today. DW says the drive is OK and the File and Folder structures checked out OK. However, DW could not rebuild the directory because it said there wasn't enough memory available. Rebooted from the HD, checked About this Mac and Activity Monitor and both report the correct amount of RAM, but the system is sluggish at best. AM also reports nearly all RAM is being used which means constant swap into and out of VM. I'm going to run TTPro to see if it can shed some light on the problem.
