Well, by moving the main HD to another bay and now it works. So, it's either the bus or controller or whatever for that bay. Wonder if I should trust the other one and how much would it cost to fix?

my photos

Unfortunately just the logic board will be more than $400. You can get one from blueraven for $450 with exchange, my guess is Apple will be a bit more than that, plus installation. The logic board must be calibrated for cooling when replaced.

Your best bet is to get a third party SATA controller. Sonnet has one for $200, probably cheaper elsewhere, that can handle 4 drives at 3.0 Gbps, the stock G5 SATA is 1.5 Gbps. Sonnet also has a 1.5 Gbps for 2 drives for $80.

Maybe just a bad cable?

Tried an Open Firmware reset? Also try leaving the machine powered down AND unplugged for 24 hours. I've seen that reset the NVRAM when no other process would, thus bringing Firewire back to a machine that had none!

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net

I didn't do it on purpose. I just got tired of messing with it for the night and left it unplugged. Next morning all's well, the problem never came back. Some capacitor or component finally released it's load of electrons.

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game
Yeah, if it's too much I'll get something else for it. Who sells those Sonnet ones?

In reply to:

Maybe just a bad cable?

Do you mean the cable supplying power and all internally to the HD? The SATA cable? Maybe, I don't know.

I'll try the Open Firmware reset in just a minute.

my photos
