Get Yasu from VersionTracker. It runs all the usual (and unusual) troubleshooting and maintenance steps for you so you don't have to waste your time on them.

I suggest:

1. Reboot with Shift held (does a disk repair without needing the DVD, and enters Safe Boot mode).

2. Run Yasu with all boxes checked EXCEPT don't bother clearing your logs (they might be useful), your cookies, or your bookmark icons. Some also say not to clear your system caches unless you have to. Your call.

3. Let it reboot the machine when done (which will exit Safe Boot).

You may find your problems are gone and you never need to know or care what caused them.

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net

You could try re-applying the latest OS update. If it's not possible to run it, do you have another computer you can attach it to via Firewire Target Disk mode?

Can you use Spotlight to launch stuff? Search for "yasu"?

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net
