i went in to buy a Prius or maybe get on the waiting list. the waiting list here is 1 year. Prius is out.

drove to Honda. Hybrid Civic is out until January. okay, how about the Honda Fit? none available and won't be any until 2009s arrive in later October and there is a waiting list. we're looking at December on the Fit (or so). regular Civic also sold out. might be able to get one of them in late October.

sheesh.

i guess i have plenty of time to sell my car. given that it's a Jeep, i'll probably need it.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions
That is the one thing I don't like about the midwest.
They have terrible import inventories. I am mostly using Central and Northern Wisconsin for my premise.

Would a web site like carsdirect.com be of any help to you?
I don't know if they still do it but carsdirect used to find cars.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
i use carsdirect extensively for my research. i wouldn't mind buying using them, but in the past i could use their printed price to go in an negotiate with the local dealer. maybe i will try . . . but i'll be in Europe for all of Sept and much of Oct. so i don't mind waiting for a while. when i get back, i will still be on sabbatical so i won't technically have to drive until January.

maybe i'll email carsdirect and see whether they have a waiting list and how long and all of that. i'd like to support them after all of the time i've spent on their site. i just totally forget that you can actually buy a car from them. heh.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions
Seems weird that there is a waiting list up there while down in Hilton Head South Carolina they had a lot of Fits on their lot. Can't you get them to have them ship one from someplace else?

Heck, even the Honda dealership where I got mine has these in stock:

Year Make Model Trim/Style Exterior Color Stock Number MSRP
2008 Honda Fit 5dr HB Man Sport Vivid Blue Pearl 82796 $17,878.00
2008 Honda Fit 5dr HB Auto Vivid Blue Pearl 82797 $17,358.00
2008 Honda Fit 5dr HB Man Nighthawk Black Pearl 82801 $16,558.00
2008 Honda Fit 5dr HB Man Milano Red 82808 $16,558.00

And Toyota of Louisville shows 1 Prius in stock and Oxmoor Toyota has 27 in stock.

my photos
my dealer showed me that they have 3 in stock here if you check the website, but that in actuality there are people who have already put a deposit on them so not one of them was available. they are listed as in stock here when they leave the factory but it takes time to ship them from Japan to here as well.

i am not in a hurry because i have to sell my car first anyway. i like the idea of trying carsdirect as i really have used them for about 5 years or more quite often.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions

Wow. That's nuts. You can go to virtually any Honda dealership here in Phoenix and they'll have at least one or two (usually the white base model with no navigation system) as far as Hybrids goes.

Prius' are much harder to get. Toyota also no longer has a "waiting list" or accepts deposits. Plus, they've added ANOTHER $5,000 premium to the cost of the car.

I feel lucky to have gotten a Hybrid with no wait, and no premium price tag. And I'm loving the gas mileage!

FSM, there's no way you'd drive a couple hundred miles to get one? Think of all the gas you'd save on the way back.

[color:red]Work With ____!

It may be a while as manufacturers make the transition from producing large, fuel inefficient vehicles to producing smaller, fuel efficient vehicles. The new Toyota plant in Mississippi which was to begin producing Tundra trucks is now being retooled to produce the Prius.
