If the Republican's American Energy Act were brought to the floor for a vote, it would pass with a majority ... a bipartisan majority. Because of this, Pelosi absolutely will not allow this to be brought for a vote. Instead, she (along with her "ray of sunshine" pal Harry Reid) will do what she always does: blame the Republicans and call President Bush names. Now THAT'S leadership!

Seriously, with Congressional approval ratings as "high" President Bush's (who isn't running for office anymore) I hope Pelosi and Reid keep on doing what they're doing. Pelosi promised change, non-partisanship and results when she took over as Speaker. She spends so much time carping about Republicans and President Bush no wonder her term as Madam Speaker has been a disaster.

***************

nuttin'

I don't think Pelosi invented unfulfilled political promises, but she and Ried have been disasters, proving my point that Democrats have the amazing ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Ried especially makes me want to reach into the TV and smack his face every time I see him. "Wake up, you mortician-imitating moron."

Yeah I have to agree... they're much better than DeLay and Lott, but not near as good as we expected them to be... I hope they BOTH lose their leadership roles in the new D Congress... they have failed us all, not miserably, but we should have MUCH, MUCH better.

David (OFI)

PS Their biggest mistake ? Taking Impeachment off the table... would have stopped Bush/Cheney/Rove dead in their tracks, even if Bush were never convicted and it would have prevented any "pardons".
I think the biggest problem is that in order to win congressional majorities, the Democrats had to bring in all kinds of interesting 'new' politicians. Just take a look at all of the freshmen senators and representatives on the Democratic side of both houses. For the most part, they are compelling people and a new type of Democrat. Then, for some reason, they chose the two most established, old-style Democrats to lead them all.

So as to Reboot's comment about the first 100 days, they were capable of doing only what the old and new Democrats could agree on like minimum wage and a few other things, but then they decided to go back to what the old style Democrats thought was their priority, maneuvering against the Republicans.

This has to be awfully frustrating to all of those new representatives who thought they had the wind at their back when making change. We have such a leadership vacuum in this country, it's amazing we are able to do anything.

-- Cee Bee Double-U
republicans controlled congress for over a decade and have nothing to show with regard to energy issues they now want to consider. they had very slow sessions as well yet this still didn't come up.

now this congress scheduled and voted more times than any other congress in my lifetime. republicans were complaining about working too hard (obviously, spending too much time on stuff they didn't like) and now they'll playing politix to try and act like they really do want to work. as if.

they also know this isn't about a vacation as nearly every member is running home to campaign. i suppose the republicans hope being babies will pay bigger dividends than kissing babies.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions
