Basically, I now have my 3G set up okay.
I miss a Finder, but something like Filemagnet, which allows importing and reading varying file formats - pdf, doc, OpenOffice, - helps with the wait.

Mail, however, is a two-edged sword.

I like the interface okay, for such a small screen ... and being able to send attachments is also pretty nifty.

BUT, two things:

1) I find it incredibly slow in getting mails off the server. Someone suggested to always leave ten or more messages in the Inbox, so that Mail doesn't have to download 25 each time again. That can't be it.

2) The rules don't make the transition from my MBP ... that's a shame, because now, the iPhone - see 1 as far as speed goes - downloads all the junk over and over again

3) would be nice if one could generate mailboxes ...

If there already exist solutions for 2 and 3, I'd be really interested.

ciao for now
