So I'm watching this PBS show on the genetics of human migration from Africa. The narrator tells us of a problem because the first non-African archeological sites are in Australia . . . and how Africans got to Australia without leaving a trace anywhere is a real mystery. So the narrator goes to a hinterland little village in India, takes blood samples, goes to a lab in India, extracts the DNA and goes to the facilities where the sequencer is located. On the door to that lab, an old-style polychromatic Apple logo. All of the computers in the lab, old old old Macs, running OS 9. The result? For the first time ever they discover the genetic marker that indicates that the ancestors of Australian aborigines passed through India.

Chalk one up for Apple

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

Well it is true that though this subject has been discussed for a long time, no one really can prove just exactly where modern man originated. To my view the only living people on earth with any chance of proving this are indeed the Australian Aboriginal.
We have had revisions of botanical taxonomy and many other revisions of known data but I have yet to see a definitive revision of our combined archaelogical, anthropological and historical accounts.

Many times in the past we have been tripping over answers at our feet hindered by traditional views and I don't see this issue as any different.

The real advances in knowledge base have always been opened up by those who dare to attempt the impossible.

It is not inconceivable that modern man actually arose in Australia rather than elsewhere.

I'm no expert, but I'd put my money on Africa as the place where primates, hominids, and humans evolved. There's the fauna--no primates nor any evidence of fossilized primates in Australia other than humans. There are the genetic markers, which point to Africa in both the female mitochondrial DNA and the male y-chromosome evidence. There's the fossil record of 2 or so million years of hominid evolution in Africa.

It's a great bet to make, though--we'll never know for sure

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

I did say modern man.
Not disputing actual evidence.
I am questioning many aspects of how the conclusions have been reached on Just where the Aboriginal fits into the scheme.
I'm not willing to say that the Aboriginal was in Australia 2 million years ago but I'd be happy to do serious discussion with anyone attempting to deny that they haven't been here for at least 1.25 million years.

Oh, stop with all the mind pollution! EVERYBODY KNOWS we were placed here by aliens only a few short centuries ago and all the history, religion and science "stories" were written to calm the frightened masses.

- alec -
You're right! They do! They lie selectively and cocentricly!

I appreciate your brief and concise overview. I've certainly come full circle in my opinion on this.

[color:white]xx[color:blue]I always deserve it. Really.
