I hear all the guys talking about tricks to save gas and I think back at all the times when I have heard this before. Several times we have had the gas increase suddenly. And when it did, the talk was all about ways to do this:. Car pool, inflate tires, Slow down and accelerate gradually, buy gas miserly cars, plan your trips around town, etc. This we did in the 70's.

So, what I ask, aren't we still doing this? I am. I have never bought a new car that I wasn't concerned about mileage and I have always driven to conserve gas. So what, I ask, can I do any differently now. Nothing, as I am still doing it.

dave

If we don't count our blessings We are just wasting our time
I'm van pooling to work, driving 65 mph or less, cutting trips, and it is saving me $... even bought Kroger discount gift cards -that's 10% off.

I'm amazed more aren't POed at Bush and Cheney and that secret meeting that they had in 2001,

David (OFI)
I was in college during the early 70's ....sitting on the Gas Lines on alternating gas days...
(For the younguns) that's when they they divided us up according to last digit in our License-Plate
Number into either odd or even & we'd only be allowed to buy gas on either designated day, to reduce
the lines and waiting time at the service stations.

President Carter took charge every step of the way to address each situation that cropped up quickly
and decisively... The alternating gas days to shorten the lines when the tempers on the lines started
getting out of hand... Lowering the Speed Limit (which later became the "55-Arrive Alive Campaign"
when statistics bore out the sharp drop in traffic fatalities)Enforced FINES for "GAS-GAUGING" and
severe penalties for Stealing Gas.

TOGETHER, we all got through it...
but in retrospect... what it accomplished was to REALISTCALLY Drop the PRICES because it sent a
strong message to the OPEC Nations & Energy Speculators that Americans Could "TURN On A DIME"
and take the necessary steps to yak the rug out from under them to step up and meet any emergency.

The same thing is already happening NOW.

As soon as people started (FINALLY) SERIOUSLY DISCUSSING DEVELOPING ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
SOURCES, stopped Building & buying GAS GUZZELERS, TIGHTENING OUR BELT And CONSERVING,
it again had the Ripple-Effect of sending messages to THE PEOPLE CONTROLLING THE PRICES.

THE MISTAKE would be to AGAIN FORGET the Lessons Learned. NOT To Get Comfortable AGAIN with
the Lowering Prices... and giving in to the GIANT OIL COMPANIES ($11BILLION 700 MILLION???)
and Knuckling Under to the Pressure from All Sided to THROW MORE Of Our MONEY At Them, by
allowing The PIN-HEAD & Company to Grab off MORE Handfuls of CASH on the way out the door.

NOW IS THE TIME (OPPORTUNITY) FOR CHANGE. Beat Back the DEPENDENCE FOREVER!
.

[color:green]"...or am I a butterfly that's dreaming she's a woman?"
