What's your response to that?"

But what viewers saw next was not what the Arizona senator said next, an out-of-order sequence that news organizations generally do not allow. It was McCain's earlier comment that "Senator Obama has indicated by his failure to acknowledge the success of the surge that he would rather lose a war than lose a campaign." That was spliced into the second part of his subsequent answer, the editing break covered by a still photo of McCain with Gen. David Petraeus.

Left on the cutting-room floor was McCain accusing Obama of "a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history."

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions
Edited by FSM on 07/25/08 06:01 AM (server time).

The C stands for Conservative and not Commie? Who knew?

It seemed like just a few short months ago that McCain was loved by the press. They would cut him so much slack it was amazing since he let them eat at his table on the plane.

But recently it seems that the tides have turned and every gaff by McCain (is it every day or every hour?) is reported. Did CBS not get the memo?

What might possibly happen: McCain is obviously losing it. Running for Prez in 2008 is the hardest job. The pressure to perform is enormous and one can see McCain age day by day. He is burning up brain cells he should be saving for retirement. So when does the media change the story to empathize with the doddering old McCain? Are we all going to feel so sorry for him by November that we elect him?

I'd be awful curious to see how and why this was done. That is well outside of what is allowed under any decent editorial policy.

-- Cee Bee Double-U
It does kind of remind me of The Daily Show interviewing the jewish seniors down in Florida a few days ago. But the Daily Show was going for the joke and made the editing obvious. Was this Katie Couric show a real news show?

Don't her ratings suck? Katie should use this as an excuse to bale and resign under protest. That way she could get out of that gig and go back to the Today Show with some dignity left.

McCain has been making numerous boo-boos the past few weeks, if you think it's bad now, what would it be like in 4 years as Pres.

David (OFI)
exactly! i knew right when i read about this that CBS was just doing this with every intention of being caught. they think they're clever, but they're not. they think this will help demonstrate that they are "balanced" after that Dan Rather crap. but you and i know better. we're all over them.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions

A yes/no question in these regards is just begging to be lied to. How about: How does this event jive with your idea of a "liberal media"? Doesn't it carry as much weight as some goofy-looking Reuters photos?

-- Cee Bee Double-U
