"I still say when we do leave chaos will return no matter when we leave."

I can't disagree - it's a distinct (and likely) possibility. And I agree why should we have bases everywhere? What does it cost us to maintain these ? $10-100s of Billions. . . . .we need the resources HOME... When we have ALL our domestic problems fixed, we can then offer to fix others (note offer, not impose). . . . but we look arrogant and hypocritical when we do it like we are now.

David (OFI)
My feeling on the bases, like other issues, is that we have had them so long that they are a self-propagating entity like a frikkin cancer. It just gets bigger. A lot of money is made in having them over seas and if we cut back on them then that money would be lost.

I would imagine that overseas bases contribute greatly toward the local economy there, also. To pull them out would cause a great flux.

Governmen "runs" better when it is in a stable situation. Mess up that stability, as in change, then this causes problems. Like any government program, once a program starts then it is very hard to cut that out because of the money. Once taxes are collected to support these programs (bases included) then the government doesn't want to let that go.

dave

There are 10 kinds of people. Those that understand binary and those that don't.
