I put a TruePower battery in my MBP when I bought it 2 years ago. Suddenly recently, it takes less charge, dies sooner, and my mac goes to sleep when the battery monitor is still showing over 25% charge. Is this a leopard thing? I seem to remember reading something about this, but I can't remember where. I've tried recallibrating, but no improvement so far. Coconutbattery has this to say:

Oh, and that reminds me - does anyone know if there's an option to stop leopard from saving window screenshots (like the above) with the extra white border/dropshadow?

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

Only 33 cycles, but CB says I'm down to 35% of original charging capacity. But I'm sure I read somewhere that OSX doesn't always get it right with non-apple batteries. I'm waiting to hear back from the folks I bought the battery from with advice.

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

Is it Apple not getting it right with third party batteries or third party battery manufacturers not getting it right? Hard to say since each would point the finger at the other. How much cheaper was the battery as compared to Apple's?

You do know that even without a lot of cycles Lithium batteries have a limited shelf life. Yours is two years old, that means even without use it has probably lost from 40-70% of its capacity already just from age. From Wiki;

At a 100% charge level, a typical Li-ion laptop battery that is full most of the time at 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit will irreversibly lose approximately 20% capacity per year. However, a battery stored inside a poorly ventilated laptop may be subject to a prolonged exposure to much higher temperatures than 25 °C, which will significantly shorten its life. The capacity loss begins from the time the battery was manufactured, and occurs even when the battery is unused. Different storage temperatures produce different loss results: 6% loss at 0 °C (32 °F), 20% at 25 °C (77 °F), and 35% at 40 °C (104 °F). When stored at 40% - 60% charge level, these figures are reduced to 2%, 4%, 15% at 0, 25 and 40 degrees Celsius respectively.

Scroll down to disadvantages in the link below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game
Are you sure you used the correct method to re-calibrate the battery? I've been witness to many MB and MBP owners using the old method, which doesn't result in correct calibration OR charge.

- a.k.a. Mississauga -
Yup, those are the instructions I followed. It's probably just old age, and not being used enough, paradoxically.

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

Yeah, those batteries are "happiest" when fully discharged and recharged periodically. My iBook G4 shows only 56% battery life left, despite the fact only a small percentage of its time is spent running on battery... and I have re-calibrated quite a few times.

- a.k.a. Mississauga -
The good news for me is that FastMac (from whom I bought the battery) seem to think they can do something about it based on it still being within its 2 year warranty. Good on 'em. I'll let you know what happens - if I have to send it back to them, I've still got my original Apple battery, though goodness knows what state it'll be in as I forgot to keep charging it up :(

- padmavyuha

*edit* alas, only a 1 year warranty on this particular battery, so I'd have to buy a new one. That'll cost me $120 including carriage to the UK, which is around £62. Dunno - have to wait until I get paid and see how it is...

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby
