Morning all,

Just a quick update on what is going on with the servers.

What appears to be happening ... at least our current theory ... is that over time, MySQL (which back ends the forum software) bogs down. This is because of how caches get filled, buffers, etc...

We've been working on tuning things. Each time we do that, we restart the server which means that it's offline for about 3-4 minutes until it fully comes back up. The problem with performance tuning is that you do it, and then you have to wait a bit (usually several hours if not a day).

This morning around 9:30am Pacific (remember, we're in pacific time zone), we made a bunch of changes again. That's when the server went from horrible to better. But, I think we're in for more tuning.

We're going to let it run for a while now to see how things progress, and then tune some more this afternoon.

Remember, for those of you on the east coast of the US/Canada, it will be worst for you first thing in the morning (before we get in to look at things).

In the long run, we're going to be moving the discussion boards to a new setup (completely new setup) that we'll be using for the new MacTech site as well. Not yet sure when this will be, but it's months off ... not days.

We'll keep on this, and if the tuning doesn't work, we'll consider moving to the new wwwthreads -- although it appears it hasn't been updated much, and we're concerned about doing that.

There's the update.

Thanks!

Neil
