Speed isn't the issue with me,,, it's the interface... they dramatically changed many things... even the basic pallets I used to like. I can't find things I used routinely and I do NOT want to go hunting for them... it quickly got very frustrating.. so I just junked the whole deal.

I use iWork 08 - Pages and Keynote, for all most ALL my WP and presentation needs... My spreadsheet use is split about 60-40% between Excel and Numbers, respectively.

I just don't have the time to retrain every time MS decides to upgrade their software versions. I didn't see any great improvement in functionality- just eye-candy.. I can live without that. Oh sure it's nice, but functionality and ease of use come long before that for me.

My personal choice, I know... hope it works well for you.

David (OFI)
I have Numbers, Pages and Keynote running and I often use those to scan and work with some documents but unfortunately I deal with too many people who send me Word, Powerpoint and Excel documents. Even though editing those in Numbers for instance then saving back into Excel hasn't been a problem the added layer of complexity isn't worth it.

So since I am stuck with Word/Excel/Powerpoint and I have Intel I'll try 2008. Finding commands in different places never bothered me. Keeps your brain young and pliant.

After you've had Word open for a while, check Activity Monitor to see how much memory it's using. I'd be curious to hear what it does on a MacIntel. As I said before, on a G4 and G5 it gobbled up as much RAM as it could, up to 1.5 GB on my G5. and almost 150 MB on the G4, which has only 1.25 GB of RAM. By contrast, I've had Word 2004 open on the laptop for a couple of days, and it's using 50 MB of RAM.

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

i have 4 GB of RAM so this doesn't seem too bad after having Word open all day:

about half of Firefox 3 and only 30 MB more than imagewell.

--
[color:red] Kansas Jayhawks -- 2008 National Champions
...and NeoOffice can already open Office 08's .docx etc. files.

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

In case anyone's interested . . . MS came out with the 1.0 version of the XML converter. Get it at mactopia.com

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]
