In reply to:

To get a non-republican President in November is paramount.

Unfortunately that is why decisions like Pelosi's "impeachment is off the table" were made. It's the wrong reason. Congress should do its job. It abdicated its job of declaring war. It's doing it again concerning impeachment. Both of those abdications were done so that they were more electable. Getting elected unfortunately, is the only job Congress cares about.

[color:blue] "Fein, in another part of that interview, says that impeachment is necessary to create the precedent of prosecution for future administrations to comply with existing constitutional law and, I believe, to reorient the actual administration's misdirection."

THAT's exactly why I have been for it all along. Bush has taken the office of the President and made it nearly a dictator... he did while he had a GOP majority in Congress.
A presidence needs to be set for future power mongering politicians. They are not "God" and they DO answer to the lawso of the land, esp the Constitution !. GW has thumbed his nose at it dozens of times... avoiding FISA, illegal taps, counciling his staff and ex-staff to ignore Congressional subpoenas... on & on ... and that doesn't even include the war crimes charges (torture), and lying to start a war!

and Center I came to the conclusion the first day about Pelosi when she took Impeachment off the table... at the least she could have played it down but left the door open... what a DUMB statement. ...and Harry Reid,.. he's even below her measley standards. What a bunch of spineless "do-nothings" !!

David (OFI)
Could it be that they're all complicit? If Mr Bush lays the foundation, then theoretically the next President can sit on established practice when he/she performs similar acts.

Congress and the Senate have decided their one and only job is to stay in office - hence the now incessant political campaigning. Since they are now resigned to not running the country it's obvious that the President needs to take more powers and become a dictator with a bunch of sycophantic yes men in tow!!

[/sarcasm] - though I'm not sure how much significance this tag holds!!

I used to think it was terrible that life was unfair. Then I thought what if life were fair and all of the terrible things that happen came because we really deserved them? Now I take comfort in the general unfairness and hostility of the universe.
