As our indulgence creates the travesty of the current FLDS horror of brainwashed and raped children being handed back to their old wrinkly rapist husbands.

When, exactly, did FLDS become Christian? That will be a surprise for them to know.

Mormons are Christians. FLDS are Christians. Only some wacky evangelicals deny that they are Christians but those are the same ones that deny Catholics their Christianity.

But who really cares about the nomenclature? Not me. When I go to the Midway at the fairgrounds I find it pointless to argue what is a freak show and what is fake. They're all a freak show.

Arguing what is a cult and what is a true religion is as dumb as arguing what number of angels one can fit on the end of a pin stuck in the ass of an invisible pink unicorn.

FLDS is a cult much like the Branch Davidians. Whatever Christian roots they may have had have been severed. What they believe and practice has no semblance to Christian practices anymore. Oh, the Catholic Church is Christian having been founded by one of the original apostles.

In reply to:

FLDS is a cult much like the Branch Davidians.

I certainly would not argue that point but they sure would. I think any group that believes and bases their life on fantasy is a cult so my definition of a cult is a tad broader. It seems a bit weird to draw the line between cult and "normal" religion using some made up civil rule like breaking a federal law. Drinking in the 20s was illegal by federal decree. Was a speak easy really a church of cultists?

But again, arguing about what to call a type of crazy is just ... crazy.

Should I add Tom Cruise to the melting pot of this discussion?!?!

I used to think it was terrible that life was unfair. Then I thought what if life were fair and all of the terrible things that happen came because we really deserved them? Now I take comfort in the general unfairness and hostility of the universe.

Why Tom Cruise? Is Scientology based on any greater fantasy than the three desert dogmas? It's not even a matter of degree, they are all fantasy.

Scientology, Mormonism, FLDS, or Branch Davidians. They only get looked down upon because there hasn't been a bunch of people believing their flavor of fantasy for over two thousand years. Absurd to have the dividing line between stuff you brainwash your children with and stuff you make fun of and call a cult just a matter of timing.

The reason why Scientology is so vehemently attacked as a cult is that if a religious person actually thought for a moment they would see themselves in Tom Cruise. He just gets to act absurd jumping on a couch on TV because he has a publicist.

A religious person making fun of Tom Cruise is like Ralph in "Lord of the Flies" belittling Jack and Piggy. They've all lost it. They're all crazy.

Just remember: Scientology was started while L. Ron Hubbard was living in Phoenix. Phoenix is in the middle of the desert. Igitur: scientology is a desert dogma as well.

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

No way can a religion created after air conditioning is in common use be called a desert dogma. Scientology is a Hollywood dogma with lawyers as cardinals.

Now if you told me L Ron got lost in the desert for, say, 40 days, you might have something.
