Has anyone here got experience with this system? I'd like to add a couple of extra drives so that I can set up a RAID to get a little more speed out of my PowerMac and Photoshop et al, but I have to wonder how good an idea it is to put all those hard drives in there. I'd be looking at the CPU bay assembly one.

Oh, I dunno. I use my HDs more often than my optical these days. As long as the speed was decent enough, I'm sure an external FW DVD burner would be fine.

OTOH, I'd rather have internal HDs if I could help it.

[color:red]Work With ____!

Yeah, but it adds unnecessarily to the cost of a project whose budget is limited.

After buying the hard drives as well, I'll be getting pretty close to five hundred dollars, which is about the top end of what I'd like to spend on a four year old machine. And I'd still like to add some RAM.

I'd probably go for the 3 drives in front also, but I'm with MikeSellers, I was wondering about the heat they will give off. You might want to do some research and see what others have to say, find some reviews. Hopefully the G5 would just adjust fan speed for that section of the case, which may lead to some increased fan speed is all.

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game
Here's something on it. Looks like a maybe little more noise at times, not much, but then again they added 7 drives. Also if you sleep the drives when possible it will help on heat/noise, but then you have the lag while waiting for the drive/s to spin up when they are accessed.

http://www.barefeats.com/hard50.html

------>#1 - JD's Trivia game

------>#2 - MM-MCF Trivia game

I'm seriously considering getting one of those 1000 GB drives and taking out the two I have now just so I can let the hard drive sleep. If I could afford it right now, I'd really like to get a Mac Pro instead since those are supposed to run cooler. My office is in the bonus room above the garage and I'm serious about it being about 5 degrees hotter than the rest of the floor. I do have a room air conditioner which helps keep it cooler but it probably won't help my utility bills.
