What kills me is McCain wants to suspend the Fed Gas tax for several months and it's estimated to cost $10 billion or > half all the earmarks in Congress this year. Now they made a big deal about all the earmarks and they should - waste... but when we need $ to fix bridges, highways, and infrastructure and they're sending tens of billions to the Middle East ... seem like McCain's proposal is a bandaid on a throat slashing. And what does it save the average voter ?? ... a measley $2.35 per fill up -- about as helpful as Bush's $600 to help stave the the housing crisis... too damm little and too damm late.

I will give McCain credit for one thing... he has the least earmarks of anyone in Congress! Kudos to John...
Hillary had $125 million, Barak only $3 million... as comparison. I don't mind some, esp if they're worthy projects... but for most - it's out of control. Too bad Congress doesn't establish a rule that each gets a certain % of the revenue his state or district contributes to the treasury.... like 0.01% ... so they can have a little but it's limited. That would do 2 things- reduce the waste, and make the Congress members more selective on which projects got their limited share... so even less would be wasted when more worthy projects were funded and the frivilous ones dropped.

David (OFI)

Borrowing from China is part of the answer. Where do our tax resources get spent? Paying the interest on the debt is part of the answer.

trillions, of course...... typo.

Yes, the money has been coming from China and other places.
So, while Americans are paying the interest, the rest of the world has been financing the deficit .... and THAT will be coming to an end.
The next war will have to be financed from running expenses. ;)
