I recieved my 500 GB WD HD and activated TM last night. Did the initial back up. I tried it as an Airdisk for about 15 minutes... of hassle and no progress... then just plugged it into the tower.

My question is... I get home and see hourly back ups. Is there some way to set less frequent back ups?

Leave it alone - the hour backup is only catching incremental changes hourly. After a while you won't even notice it. There is no noticeable degradation in performance.

The Bill of Rights doesn't grant us our rights, it merely enumerates them.

There is no noticeable degradation in performance.

Hmmm.. that's not the way I see it. If I'm doing heavy retouching to large files all day long... it can only be read as a performance hit when the HD is backing up and trying to keep up with my retouching.

Use a folder/s for your temporary repository for files you're retouching and add it/them to the places TM doesn't search.

------> JD's Trivia game

------> MCF-MM Trivia game

If I'm doing heavy retouching to large files all day long...

It sure would be a shame to loose all that stuff. Try it for a while, and try rb's idea. If it drags, change it, but don't kill it before you try it for a while.

The Bill of Rights doesn't grant us our rights, it merely enumerates them.

Performance absolutely sucks while TM is running its backups. If it doesn't for you, then you aren't working on the same types of files I do - I generally go get a cup of coffee and wait for it to finish.

Besides, where did you get the idea he was going to kill TM? He just wants to change the frequency of backups. The app in the article works quite well... all it does is alter a plist file.
