Whenever my new, white iBook's battery runs down as far as the 'reserve power' warning, the date automatically resets to somewhen in 1904! I am new to Macs. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong? (I know how to reset it back again via control panels, I want to know if I can stop it happening.)

Thanks,

Leslie.

This is normal to iBooks, they do not have a backup battery for the date/time storage so if the battery goes completely flat the date/time gets reset to its default (for some reason some time in 1904). The only way to stop it happening is to plug your ibook in or stop using before you get the reserve power warning.

“Here can be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. Thanks, that explains it. As I use my iBook as a desktop, what's the best way to preserve the battery? Leave it plugged in to the mains all the time? (Hoping that the energy manager 'sees' the full battery and won't overcharge it to hell and ruin its life.) Or, charge the battery, then run it down, then charge it up again?

Thanks. It's a problem for all 'exclusively portable' users.

Just leave it plugged in it won't overcharge the battery (I keep mine plugged in all the time when I am at home)

“Here can be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea.
