I take everything back that I ever said about ABC. I've heard little about Obama's spiritual advisor from the MSM before. Most has been on blogs and righty web sites seeking to stir up the faithful. So imagine my surprise when I see ABC news doing a piece on Obama's pastor, Rev Wright. This guy is a nutbar. He makes Geraldine Ferraro look like Mother Superior.

Now I am sure that we will be able to find where BO has denounced Wright at least once during the twenty plus years that he and Mrs. Obama attended the church. I am aware that Obama has said that the Rev Wright is no longer pastor of the church, and that he is uncomfortable with his church giving Farrakan their man of the year award, but the very least BO can do is remove the man from his campaign.

" An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright’s sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda’s attacks because of its own terrorism.

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,” Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost,” he told his congregation."

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zWvxTUy47Fk&rel=0&border=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"width="425" height="355">

While I strongly disagree with the Pastor's message...

we (US govt) don't have a great track record these past 7 years, Robert.

I blame all the politicians esp. Bush and Cheney....

BUT... incl. Pelosi and Reid for not trying to fix the schitt the minute they took the lead. Now maybe they don't have a huge majority, but standing up and trying to make things right would have gone a long ways in many people's mind. I'd throw them out as fast as I would the Bushies if I had a say.

David (OFI)
I never thought I'd hear an American says the things Rev Wright did.
If Obama can call this chap "an old uncle", he can't be all bad. ;)

Perhaps the single most interesting thing I have encountered in this election campaign.

The rev. is not unique in seeing the current state of world affairs as push-back for the way that the US has behaved on the world stage. If you support Pinochet in Chile and Somoza in Nicaragua, etc. etc, and then you go around affirming that you're all for freedom and democracy, you have to expect that people in those countries will see you as a hypocrite at best, and a neo-colonial tyrant at worst. What's so wrong about telling the truth? That the majority of the citizens of this great country never understand how their government's actions are perceived is where the real shame lies. And IMHO the perspective of those who say that the national interest of the US depends on that king of regressive foreign policy are just plain wrong.

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

Is it because he said "God damn America"? Are we so up the creek without a paddle that we can no longer criticize our country?

I'll yell it. "God damn America! We can do better than this. We can do so much better. Three strikes you're out and we have now locked up one out of every hundred Americans? God damn America, that's crazy!" "More than half our prison cells our filled by prisoners of victimless crimes. God damn America, we need a little change here. We need a little hope."

Far from it. BO's rev can say whatever he wants. But Obama is currently seeking the highest office in the land. He has spent the last twenty years of his life attending a church pastored by an America-hating racist who just happens to be currently advising Obama's campaign. That don't play well to Ma and Pa Kettle and main stream America.
