The weather was not great during the whole Maui stay but we did fair better then Oahu and the Big Island which had thunder storms and flash flooding. Today is supposed to be Maui and Molokai turn for some real nasty stuff rolling in. We just hope we don't get caught in it on our flight back to Oahu.

I did manage to get some shots of Haleakala Crater just about when the clouds were rolling in.

But first somebody mentioned "you are here" type of directions??

The smallest of the 2 visitor centers.

The clouds came in very fast

All in all we had a great trip despite the weather - back to Oahu where Marg adventures will pick up again in about 4 days, I have to go back to work - sadly.

The day started out beautiful. I'd woken up much earlier and went outside for a smoke. There were millions of stars lighting up the sky. As dawn broke I finally saw the tops of the mountains for the first time since arriving on Maui.

After leaving the cafe we headed up and up and up the twisting road to the crater. My good luck ran out and I didn't get to see much and again the high altitude affected me. bummer. I'm glad Steve managed some good shots in the time I sat in the car trying to overcome my dizziness. By the time I felt okay to stand up, the cloud had rolled in. The rock formations do look rather mysterious though.

The poor rental car has taken a beating this week. To top things off the owners cats love to nap on the hood of the car after we've returned from our trip. Nice and warm up there when the air is so cool.

I'm sorry you weren't feeling good marge, even with your head in the clouds. And those are incredible pics, I cannot imagine being so high that I can shoot the clouds.

Haleakala ~ House of the Sun. Beautiful name and beautiful scapes, carp, almost eerie. The faraway people on the trail give it all an awesome perspective. Well, OK, the maps help, too. Can't thank y'all enough, your posts have really made my heavy work week more bearable.

LL

[color:white]xx[color:blue]I always deserve it. Actually, I've been in Hawaii 30 days. Time has flown by and it seems like yesterday I arrived. I haven't been sitting still for very long, however. I've been to 4 islands and seen almost all there is to see on each one.

I'm back on Oahu for the next month. Time to catch my breath though I hear there is some "surprise" thing being planned for me by carp's daughter.

Am I coming home?? Yeah, but it's real tempting......

There's more coming today. One good thing: no need to worry about coming home to the year's worst snow storm. I think it's been.

[color:blue]Laz, OFI

Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes? — Groucho
