Wow. Talk about neo-puritanism. IMO, this kind of stuff is a sign of certain sexual and psychological (self-)repression, which I find not so healthy in the long run, as it is fundamentally about denying a lot of natural human behaviour. Yeah, you can't show nude buttocks, but what about the skimpoy dresses with Peter Funt's female co-hosts in Candid Camera. It's a crappy show yeah, and I don't really mind them female hosts' attire, but talk about ridiculous double standards. Oh, and you get a whole lot more demeaning and sexist stuff on music videos on MTV. Furthermore, IIRC, once a long long time ago in NYPD Blue there was a scene where the detective named Bobby, who later was passed on in the show, came out of the shower and his nude buttocks were shown. Similarly, I remember a scene like that showing the character Baldwin's ass. Oh, then this thing comes to mind: Why on Earth the FCC never bothered in the first place, back in 2003? And yet I'm wondering why not any fuss about those aforementioned scenes showing male buttocks...

I'm finding this thing to be most absurd and tragicomic. I don't know, whether I should laugh, cry or both.

Then again, I just maybe born in a culture with a more open view towards nudity, us Finns having them saunas and all, but public nudity isn't that accepted here either, although I do think we have -- based on part my exchange year in the states and part by the overall sense I pick in here and from the US media -- as a whole, healthier and more natural viewpoint and attitude as in regards to nudity, sexuality and our bodies. Certainly showing buttocks on national TV here doesn't cause similar consequences these days.
