Does anyone else have this? If I have a Finder window open and I launch an app, or there's an installer running, the windows get opened behind the Finder window. Is there some option to stop that happening?

Oh, and I really miss being able to click on a folder or volume in the dock and have it open in Finder. Yes, you can right-click and choose Open in Finder, but it doesn't remember the window size/view like it did in Tiger. Sigh...

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

The first part, that doesn't happen for me. Which apps?

The second part, I assume you are talking about stacks? If you wanted to go straight to a Finder window, you could just skip the dock part and maneuver through the finder itself.

my photos
The first part seems to have stopped happening, for the moment.

As for the Dock thing, I've installed Quay which gives me folder hierarchy with single click, Open in Finder with double click. That'll do!

- padmavyuha

*edit* the first problem was caused by an out-of-date version of Namely, my app launcher of choice. I hadn't noticed that it was only when I launched apps this way that the app would be the bottom-most app in the stack. The new version has fixed this. Namely saves me needing any stacks or Dock icons to launch stuff - you quickly get used to what 3-4 letters brings up the app you want, and frequently used apps get moved to the top of the list anyway. Neat. (I'm a child of the 80's when it comes to computers - if I can do it from the keyboard rather than having to mouse to somewhere, I will...)

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

We'll see, eh? Oh, and it seems as though Time Machine doesn't do its hourly backup at the scheduled time if the drive has spun down, which is disconcerting. I'll wait until the next one's due and see if it happens again.

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

It should have no problem spinning the drive up and doing the backup. I actually downloaded an app to schedule it for me (every 12hrs instead of 1) because I didn't like my drive spinning up so often.

zweisoft
One thing I didn't notice at first in Leopard, but which I like just fine now that I know:

* Windows normally open in whatever mode you've most recently been using (for anything) in Finder, not remembering how THAT window was last used. But in VIew Options you can check a box that makes THAT window remember and force its own settings. Check that box for the windows you care about being in a certain mode--a brief phase in my case--and from then on all will seem more familiar.

A semi-shortcut for opening the window in Finder: command-click then command-O.

(I hope Apple DOES add hierarchical menu view back in. But I hope it does NOT make the icon open in Finder by default. I want the old list view PLUS the new instant-launch-in-dock without the delay or the need for a right-click. Instant left-click menu view, with spring-loading, sounds perfect to me. Maybe we'll get the choice though.)

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net
