Maybe you're OK as long as you never hit Pause

BTW, although some blame Apple for wanting a 24-hour limit, there are signs that the content owners are the ones who demanded it. And the reason may be because PPV has that same limit, and the movie studios don't want to aggravate the cable companies too much:

http://daringfireball.net/linked/2008/january#wed-16-vod

Hopefully they will give on that issue in future.

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net

Here's what happens after it expires. If it's playing ..it keeps playing. You get a warning if you try to pause/stop it. You CAN scrub the video to your hearts content though. Also, judging by the ability to capture the picture with the standard OS X screenshot ...I'm sure Snapz Pro could capture the audio/video.

zweisoft
And the 24-hour limit is broken until the next update

Someone will write a util (if not an Automator action) that scrubs the first few seconds of the movie to keep it live until you're ready 3 weeks later!

(I wonder if just putting a book on your mouse button would hold the scrubber still and have the same effect?)

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net

It's reg DVD res. I thought the quality was great, though. Wish I could check out one of the HD movies, but I'm not gonna buy an AppleTV to try it

zweisoft
When I tested it I didn't even have to keep scrubbing. I let the movie end normally and waited 10 minutes. then I just clicked in the window again and it restarted at the beginning. You could just let it play all the way through and not close the window.

zweisoft
Regular DVD res... as in better than iTunes movie purchases? (Which are 640x480 and then the vertical is cropped for letterboxing, resulting in less than DVD's typical 720x480. At least I assume iTunes movie purchases are the same as iTunes TV show purcahses: Battlestar Galactica is 640x360.)

That's cool about "just letting it play." Now, what if you did that BEFORE the time was up, and it hit the end and sat there... when the time limit came up would you lose the movie? I'm wondering whether you have to start play so that playback "crosses the deadline" in order to get the behavior you describe.

nagr[color:red]omme

I require stroyent!
TeamMacOSX.com | MacClan.net
