I used the ClarisWorks/AppleWorks database a lot a few years back and I thought Neo Office would be a substitute now those apps are so out of date.

However, I don't even seem to be able to get started. I can't find any way of adding fields in the Wizard. I did find a tutorial in Wikipaedia which enabled me to get some in via the spreadsheet, but that's rather a fiddly way of doing it rather than putting them in directly.

Now I've got my fields in and one record I want to start building the records. But WHERE on earth is the really basic 'Add new record' menu item? This database seems to be missing the simplest of functions - or is it me?

Edited by frannbug on 01/14/08 03:14 PM (server time).

NeoOffice (which is an OSX port of OpenOffice) is currently based on the code for OpenOffice v2.2 - OOo's versions after that in the 2.x range have been too buggy for it to be worth porting to NeoOffice, so they're waiting for OOo v3.x to come along soon.
Base in OOo v2.x is pretty basic and patchy compared to the other modules. I don't know just how improved it will be in v3.x, but I gather from people who are using Base that it's not for the faint-hearted just now.

There are links to some good Base noob stuff in this thread at oooforum.org, and a 17Mb PDF NeoOffice User Guide can be downloaded from this link.

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby
