My feeling on the matter is that 1st world
countries have the knowledge and where
with all to over come the pitfalls of the past,
rather than sitting on it's hands blaming
the 3rd world nations for trying to catch
up in today's world.

We know how we got here, and know NOW
how it could have been avoided, and now
have the technology to find ways of avoiding
it from happening again.
In reply to:

In all seriousness .. joking aside .. you felt bad about flying?

All joking aside, yes.

I don't feel horrible about flying. It's not something I think about too much or anything that would put me on the street marching (or hassling family members either). It is something though that I think about when I think about my own environmental footprint and it informs my decisions when I vote and talk about politics. I'll probably fly again too since there is no practical alternative in my personal life to conveniently get out to California to visit my family. What is there left to do?

So it's not a crazy big deal, but it's something that I know so it's something that I should consider.

-- Charlie Alpha Roger Yankee Whiskey

I'm not all that short of cred in that area. I like to gloat that I almost have an incandescent-free apartment. I wear sweaters during the winter, use my own canvas shopping bags, and plan to organize a carpool program at work.

These things aren't just environmental things though. They are all purely economical. I wouldn't have been so quick to adopt CFL and LED lighting if it didn't pay off in the electric bill so quickly. My local grocery store gives me five cents off my total for every bag I bring. Splitting a carpool with one person would probably also save me at least $20 a month. You don't have to be an environmentalist to see the economical benefits of being a little more 'green'.

Similar adjustments could be made at a much larger scale, involving different technologies and save everyone money. It just takes the will of a people to make the pragmatic argument for it.

-- Charlie Alpha Roger Yankee Whiskey
