In reply to:

Lying? Gas DID come down from $3.00 per gallon.

No, you were lying about not being able to find the post where you said it was temporary. Either that, or you're just plain lazy.

And yes, gas was below $3 a gallon. But it never went back to the pre Katrina prices. And never will, will it?

In reply to:

So it IS your own damn fault.

No, I use premium because it's recommended for my car, and I get several miles per gallon more running on premium. When there's only a 20 cent difference per gallon between regular and premium as there is now, I actually spend less money using premium. Granted, it's almost break even. If premium were say, 30 cents more per gallon, then I'd switch to regular.

Just like the HE washing machine I just purchased. It may have cost $200 more than a regular top load washer, but it uses nearly $200 less a year in electricity and water heating. So, it actually costs far far less... even though most people only see the price tag - like DLC ;)

Oh, is it being an assh@le to mention I paid cash for the washer on just one job? :P

Hey I'm an F'n Jerk!®

"his is about the government being incompetent, and causing us to have thousands of dollars less in our pocket each year than we would if someone who knew what the hell they were doing was in office."

to reiterate Sarge's point... it's not about US... what about those not as well off. those where $1200 is a lot of $$. Sorry Matt your view is very myopic and very MY-opic... just cause you can afford it or cut places doesn't mean many are out there who can't. many don't have the wherewithal to do so like we do.

and furthermore, it DOESN"T have to be... oil industry had "record " Profits .. up very much over pre-Katrina prices... so these greedy azzholes use this as an excuse to steal (gouge) from the less fortunate and US too to be inclusive. I find it ironic the Bushies felt compelled to "free Iraq" (course we know that was a lie) but they won't lift a finger to "Free" their own constituents and people (economically). it's hypocrisy and double standards.

David (OFI)

"Most people I knew said I was stupid, that we'd save sooooo much money because of competition."

Most people do fall for that trap, even here in Finland. We've had a few utilities and services being privatized and businessized, every time with the claim of competition bringing down the prices, and keeping them down. Every time idiots bite everything and say what a good idea, until a few years later. Thanks to competition, our car registration fees went up skyrocketing, our electricity prices are also going up, although not nearly to the same extent as yours. Anyways, deregulation very rarely functions as claimed, but quite the opposite, the prices go up by private businesses and their gouging. The car registration inspection here is a perfect example. What used to be government-regulated and operated business only used to cost less than 20 euros, however the stations weren't that numerous. Well now, we have plenty of private stations getting your vehicle registered and checked, and since it is mandatory procedure by law, people have to do it annually, but the price has at least doubled already. Thanks to human nature, certain necessities and their prices shoulod always be regulated, as there will always be another conceited d!ckhed looking to maximize their profit on even those. Well, especially with the necessities, since they are sure-fire businesses.

And to Matt about the social welfare, and socialized medicine and stuff: I'd like to see a real comparison in how tax money in the states goes to policing, correctional institutes and the military compared to how much goes to education, medicine and welfare, and then take any European country and compare the same figures side by side. I'm willing to bet that spending in welfare and education especially and medicine, is a pre-emptive measure saving money spent in law enforcement and imprisonment in the long run.
