unbelievable, but my Jayhawks keep on winning in football. we're just a heady team that rarely turns it over and rarely gets called for penalties. we have an easy game next week to go to 11 - 0 before facing (potentially) two other top 5 teams in Missouri and Oklahoma. win out and we're playing for the national championship.

personally, i think Oklahoma is probably the best team in football, but i am watching KU every week now and i am becoming a believer.

Because they beat my Utah State Aggies?

the big 12 is going to have 3 teams in the top 5, so it's not like KU isn't playing anyone. we won at Colorado (OU didn't). Nebraska scored 73 points today, but last week KU scored 76 against Nebraska. we just won at Oklahoma State tonight and they nearly beat Texas last week, plus they have one of the best offenses in the country (so our defense stepped up). we won at Texas A&M, which is a huge win.

i think OU is the best team because i've watched them play and i always suffer from the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. same thing in basketball. last year, Florida was awesome in hoops and we played them. i figured they'd destroy us because the seemed better at nearly ever position. the game was played and we destroyed them. i think i just watch my own teams so much that i notice the weaknesses and other teams rarely seem to expose what i see. hmmm. anyway, i am not impressed by LSU. i have yet to see Oregon so they are a bit of a wild card for me. but i do think KU is for real now and i might not have said that 3 weeks ago.

You do not want to include Nebraska as validation in any way shape or form. That team is so screwed up. They just came off a FIVE game losing streak, and haven't beaten a single quality opponent all year, in the big 12 or out of it.

In reply to:

the big 12 is going to have 3 teams in the top 5

And Kansas hasn't played either of them, nor the one other good team in that conference, Texas. Don't get me wrong, I do think they're good and for real, but they are very similar to Arizona State. Good teams with back-heavy schedules. ASU skyrocketed to the top of the polls because they hadn't played anyone yet, and (like Kansas) they far-exceeded their expectations for the year. Their biggest win was against Colorado, who did beat OK, but did you happen to notice that Colorado is 5-6 and lost yet again today, to the hapless Cyclones? Yikes.

the big 12 is ranked higher than the big 10 this year . . . and Ohio State has played a pretty darn weak schedule to get to #1 (until today that is -- losing at home to Illinois). KU has had the easiest path of top contenders, no doubt (and Hawaii isn't a top contender yet or they'd get this distinction).

Oregon and LSU have played tougher schedules, but they've also lost. KU had a favorable big 12 schedule, no doubt. but they still have to play Missouri and OU (most likely . . . if both win out), so their SOS will jump. i think Oklahoma State was our biggest win tonight in Stillwater (they were ranked 43rd going into tonight) with the A&M win and Colorado right there as they're ranked 45 and 44 respectively. that's 3 teams in the top 45 in 4 weeks with 2 on the road. K-State was a top 25 team when we beat them and they were still a top 60 team going into today (they lost). Nebraska, for all of the flack is now 6 - 5 and will probably go to a bowl game just because of who they are . . . and they put up 73 points today a week after we destroyed them. they have talent that just didn't seem to gel this year, but they get good recruits and their fans follow them everywhere.

Sagarin computer rankings jump us to number 1. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt07.htm

Ohio State had a lot of #1 votes that are up for grabs. i don't think we jump to #1, but if enough Ohio State votes come our way . . .

That's impressive except for one major problem... you haven't played anyone in the top 30 and your schedule ranking is #97.
But, if you beat Oklahoma, that will solve that problem.

we'll play mizzou first and they're top 5 now.

but the thing that sets us apart from most teams with our SOS is that we're winning by over 30 points a game. if you're going to play cupcakes, at least treat them like cupcakes.
