one of my education heroes is speaking on the second floor of my building later this afternoon and then again tomorrow night in a more public setting. i am going today, but still working on finding a sitter for tomorrow night, which is a different speech. i was actually supposed to have dinner with him tomorrow since i served on the committee to bring him in, but my wife is teaching and i didn't find child care like an idiot. doh!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Kozol

he will attend the dinner, but i doubt he eats. it's more of a mixer type dinner anyway, so the more he works the various tables the better for all who attend.

i had planned on making loud, "mmmmm" sounds when i was eating.
well, i was a somewhat disappointed in the speech he gave at the university. he's clearly passionate about the topic, but his speech was a bit scattered. he'd start a thought and allow himself to get sidetracked while telling a story. he tied much of it up, but it's wasn't smoth . . . it didn't have the polish that i'd expect when paying someone $15,000 for the appearance. ah well, it was still entertaining.
