According to the French web site MacBidouille the new Mac Pro will be launched at MWSF.
They say the reason for the delay is Apple is in the process of reworking Leopard to work with the instructions of Penryn and especially with SSE4 instructions.
It is for that reason that Mac OS X 10.5.2 will be revised and released at MWSF also.
It will be the best interim update of a system ever released by Apple.

Normally this rumor would not be a big deal to me but I thought it was interesting and probable that the delay could indeed be because Apple is trying to optimize Leopard to work with the Mac Pro's Harpertown processors.

that's fine with me . . . i can wait. i figured if they've waited this long that nothing was going to happen until after the holidays anyway. i hope they ramp up production and have stuff ready to ship when they announce.

This baby is going to be a beauty.
It should have either nVidia's 8800 GT or ATI's HD3870 for one of the video cards.
Both are very fine video cards. The 8800 GT is more powerful. The HD3870 consumes less power and gives more power per watt than the 8800 GT.

I seriously doubt this will happen but IF the new Mac Pro has either the 8800 GT in SLI or the HD3870 in crossfire, then it will have a video card (x2) more powerful than either the 8800 GTX or 8800 Ultra.

The nVidia 8800GTS 512MB (G92)!!!!
nVidia is launching this bad boy next week.
The benchtests that I have seen so far show that this card is more powerful than the 8800 GTX.
Please, let this video card be available for the next Mac Pro.

A German web site jumped the gun and is offering an ASUS 8800 GTS 512MB (G92) for sale.
nVidia will take the page down but until then here it is:
http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a299368.html

According to Appleinsider, they say: These will clock up to the predicted 3.2GHz and use new video cards, including NVIDIA's latest Quadro FX workstation models.

so, will that satisfy you or ?

The processor; absolutely!
The Quadro FX video card; no!
The Quadro is an excellent workstation video card. It works very well with video editing, 3D rendering, image editing etc.
But it is not optimized for gaming. It is not a good all-around card.
Add to the equation that it will probably cost an extra $1500.

I would rather have a high-end video consumer card that costs less and can do everything that I need.
