ask yourself
do you need to have more than 1 graphics card(note you can have 2 monitors on 1 card)?
do you ned 4 internal hard drives?
are you crunching huge amounts of Math?
Are you ready to invest in 2x as much ram as processors in the box?

If yes, then a Tower is for you. If not the iMac is for you with external storage and multiple display capabilities and dual core.

hey nutty, it's me sean just using a new name here.

i know i need a tower for the video work i do. but, i am in no hurry so i'll wait for the next tower release.

Yes I need a tower, and the Mac pro would be ideal...

that is if it would run OS X while a GeForce 8800 is installed :P

I want multiple internal drives because I want dedicated drives for OS X and windows (I will be using it as a 3D workstation, but also doubling as a game machine, I'll have drives for each)

When are we gonna get that? :)

Hey I'm an F'n Jerk!®

[color:blue]"that is if it would run OS X while a GeForce 8800 is installed"
I'd kill for a GeForce 8800 series card.
My money says the next card is ATI's HD 2900 XT.

I like checking this site !!

Mac Buyer's Guide

lots of info and insight...

anyone's prediction, but it lays it ALL out.

David (OFI)
That card is the main reason I've held off.

I don't see the reasoning behind building a whole other PC when the MacPro would do so nicely. But once I found out they wouldn't boot with the new GeForce boards installed, that kind of killed it for me. I'm just slugging along until a new revision is released, or... hopefully an update when 10.5 comes out.

Or maybe I'll just get the Mac Pro with a Quadro card, and build a separate PC for gaming.

Hey I'm an F'n Jerk!®

[color:blue]"maybe I'll just get the Mac Pro with a Quadro card, and build a separate PC for gaming"
People think and rightfully so that the Mac Pro is a workstation computer.
That is why the Mac Pro does not have the best high-end consumer cards in it.
People argue that the Mac Pro was never intended for gaming.
The problem is there isn't an Apple computer made that is good for gaming.
A lot of people and I mean a lot of people are doing what you are thinking of doing and that is buying a second computer albeit a PC just for gaming.
There are some (Apple) people that are buying PCs and saying to heck with Apple.
There is no reason that the Mac Pro can't be both a workstation computer and a gaming computer all-in-one.
Why isn't Apple smart enough to know that they can do just that by adding a top of the line nVidia card as bto for the Mac Pro?

Want to have a laugh? I've actually had people recommend the iMac for gaming.
