I did it and it worked. command-s should be done right away, not after the grey screen. My only issue was whether I should type "fsck" or "fsck -y" like some have suggested. Well, it worked and after I typed "reboot" I was whole again.
Since it was my first fsck, I had the urge to smoke a cigarette afterwards.

You shouldn't get the flower spinner at all. You will be booting in Unix. Restart, and as soon as it shuts down, do the command-s.
It sounds scary, but it is ok. Just wait for a while after you type fsck because it is doing a self diagnosis. Then do it again until it finally says that the HD appears ok.
Also, don't worry about the reboot when it is over. Just type "reboot"

Not learning, fiddling. Remember, I am intuitive, not methodical. I have no idea how I arrive at solutions.
With me it is always the end rather than the means.
(Which can get one in trouble at home )

I just hold down the control-s from the moment I start the boot-up process, and let go only when the UNIX code starts scrolling.

The "-y" extension just tells the computer to keep running the routine without having to ask permission for every new file.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"

Dang where were you this morning? I already reverted to 10.2. But I do still have the dmg in the trash. I don't have time now until after Christmas. I think I may have downloaded the wrong one anyhow. I've got the Combo and I think I don't need it. Maybe tonight I will download the plain version. It would only take 6.5 hours as it is 10 less mb.

Ok quit fscking around, I know you can do this, Everytime I see that word I pray I will never have to fsck cause I have no idea what the fsck you are talking about, lol : ) I'm still trying to download iphoto!! Just kidding, keep trying , I know you can do it.

[color:green]Happy Holidays [color:green]

Nooo I'm not ready to fsck! I will try it again later. I spent way too much Christmas time (wrapping, cleaning, candymaking) on it yesterday so I will wait until after the holidays are over.
