In reply to:

While the anti-environmentalists are lobbying to build new "nucular" plants,

It would be a mistake to lump pro nuclear and anti-environmentalist. There are a few of us who don't fit that bill. Am I anti-environmentalists if I want to shutdown the burning of soft coal plants and build nuclear power plants? I want to blow up the Lake Powell Dam so I might just be put into the category of nut case.

Yeah, I know, there might be a big mistake at a nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, today, and every day, we are killing our citizens by particulates in the air or consigning them to a long stay in a death bed weazing on tanked oxygen.

Even if there was a nuclear accident that killed 100,000 outright that is one month's death toll at current rates looking at the epidemiology downwind from coal plants. We have to realize that and then decide what we really want.

We should build new safe nuclear power plants. We should shutdown coal plants and old nuclear power plants and we should open Yucca Mountain nuclear repository. This is just so developers can say you can jet away from your new dock instead of having to put along at 6 knots. Talk about not stopping to smell the roses. Last week I was down on the docks in Tampa and there were "go slow, Manatee" signs. Never did see one.

In reply to:

We should build new safe nuclear power plants.

Yes, we should and we can. TXU proposed building (hell, forget the "proposed." They were set to proceed . . .) 18 coal plants here in Texas. Oddly, they were bought out at the last minute by an oddly "green" outfit. So now, we'll only get half a dozen of the nasty things.

STNP down in Bay City has been quietly chugging along for 20 years. They've had some problems, but you can still fish in the waters and breathe the coastal air. Most days are so clear you can see forever and pets aren't born with two heads. People don't think twice about the double domes in their backyard. We lived down there for 3+ years and the plant is a vital part of the overall economy.

Oh, and they dislike Jane Fonda.
