The irony in Bush's petulant bitchin' about pork attachments to warfunding ~

[color:blue] Bush requested an emergency appropriation of $92 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and . . . hurricane recovery . . . the [Republican controlled] [color:blue]Senate Appropriations Committee has loaded the measure with $14 billion in new spending, most unrelated to national security or hurricane recovery. Still not satisfied, [Republican] [color:blue]Senators are now readying floor amendments to add as much as $10 billion more in spending, which would push the price tag to $24 billion above the President’s request.

The Heritage Foundation: April 17, 2006 ...Appropriations

This one didn't get vetoed. As much as I want our people outta that hell hole, I want them totally covered while they're still there. So I do worry a little that Reid's recent statements may be over-reaching a tad. But what really singes my BDVs is that the more each side accuses the other of politicizing the war, the more they ALL do it. Dems, Repubs, whatevah!

They have created such a friggin' mess — over there and back here — I don't see any happy ending whatsoever.

Because Bush doesn't have a problem spending other peoples money on a par a drunken sailor. He just has a problem with the timetable for withdrawal thing. Hence we won't see a veto on pork..... ever. They could load up $100bil in pork and he'd sign it.

What I don't get is how they classify Iraq or Afghanistan as "Emergency" appropriations. Haven't we been there long enough for it to figure into someone's planned budget. I know when I have a storm and it makes holes in the roof it comes under Emergency budget item in my household budget. But when the roof starts looking raggedy and obviously needs to be replaced then it falls under normal (planned) household budget.

I used to think it was terrible that life was unfair. Then I thought what if life were fair and all of the terrible things that happen came because we really deserved them? Now I take comfort in the general unfairness and hostility of the universe.

I think they put in under "Emergency" appropriations so that at the end of the year it's NOT counted in the deficit... they can spin that BS (.."ah the deficit was down to a meer $400 Billion this year...yada,yada,yada", - when it's actually $600-700 billion) and most average Joes don't see through it, or care to.

regardless we still have to pay for it... which is WHY I say get out NOW !
we're wasting lives, money and time and the outcome will be the same !!

Ah but there is no limit on money, lives, or time for little Georgie's fscking EGO !!

David (OFI)
