In reply to:

Now when I absolutely have to use Windows I'll already know how to use it.

Oh you think so? I think working on both systems will be worse now. Vista looks more and more like OS X but is it really OS X? No. I use both Windows and Mac all day long. I have the hardest time doing stuff when I switch which is set up in the most similar way. Changing an IP address for example. The control panels and prefs are very similar but Windows has a different order and placement of the dig down to the right spot to change the IP. If they were radically different I would remember both paths but they are too similar so I always take a wrong turn in WinXP.

just because Vista will be in the same lickable 3D pastels as Mac OS X does not mean the order in which a function is done will be the same. Microsoft will have to change the order somewhat or else the rip off is too blatant.

And just wait until the first 3D lickable viruses show up. That will be fun.

Well, I've only seen what is in that parody by Pogue. But as an example, I've always felt awkward trying to move through XP's file structure, so more similarity to the Mac there would be welcome, in my opinion.

I still think it will be helpful, because now when I'm searching for something I'll at least have some idea of what it will look like.

Which reminds me... I thought this place was getting a software makeover? Furthermore, I noticed you raised some political issues and I thought politics were banned to the place down the hall?

M i c h a e l (OFI)

"I thought this place was getting a software makeover?"
You're kidding, right?

If they upgrade the software, they better make goddamned sure that they fix the problem where going back to edit doesn't replace HTML tags with those stoopid proprietary Markup tags.

That pisses me off to no end, and there's no good reason for it.

They should just enable HTML in the forums and forget the markup.

If people are too lazy or stupid to learn the tiny amount of HTML necessary to do some simple formatting, well, then, ƒµçk 'em.
